PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Shipp's shot

Much of the postgame talk Saturday was about Josh Shipp's game winning shot, and here is what point guard Darren Collison had to say about it:
‘’Only Josh would shoot that shot, and make the shot at the same time,’’ he said. ‘’I wouldn’t shoot that shot. I think everyone would have been driving to the basket or shot-faked or something else.’’

WOW!! There is no other word to describe Saturday's game. WOW!! I haven't jumped and cheered at an end of a game like that since UCLA beat Gonzaga in the Sweet Sixteen. The only thing missing was Ryan Anderson crying in the middle of the court!!! And to all those haters out there...to try and cheapen UCLA's wins over Stanford & Cal on 2 calls or no calls, Get Over It!!! Bottom line, Bruins have no control over what the ref's whistle, much like in UCLA's last loss to Washington. It's done, move on!! What the Bruins do have is a will to keep playing and finding ways to win. On a night when UCLA could have easily lost to Cal due to a letdown and Cal taking advantage, UCLA showed why they're are so tough!! Collison said it "There is no QUIT in this team"!!! GO BRUINS!!!

Gonzaga exactly . . . Love double clutches and hits a 3?? Russell knocks the ball off of Anderson's leg?? DC has a good shot then it's blocked right out of bounds then Josh hits the runner over the corner? This team is charmed. Go Bruins!!!
