Supporting a friend

After UCLA's win over Cal, reserve guard Mustafa Abdul-Hamid had teammates sign a blue and yellow ball for his friend, Andrew Benecke, who's battling cancer. Benecke and Abdul-Hamid went to the same high school in Country Day High School in St. Louis.
Abdul-Hamid learned his friend's cancer had spread to his brain and wanted to lend support.
``He was always supportive coming to our high school games,'' Abdul-Hamid said. ``I just found out through an alumni email that his cancer spread. I just wanted to send this and show him my support. People say to give flowers while you can still smell them. He's just a good kid.''
Abdul-Hamid said his friend was at MIT but had to go home while he's battling cancer.
