UCLA's top-10 NCAA Tournament moments
Just wanted to get your thoughts on some of the top-10 NCAA Tournament moments in UCLA history. An obvious one would be Tyus Edney's dash down the court and last-second shot. Any and all of your favorite moments are welcome, from the John Wooden era to the Ben Howland era. Thanks!

Sidney Wicks blocking three of Artis Gilmore's first five shots to break the spirit of Jacksonville's "Batman & Robin" team in the NC game;
a negative one: Oscar Robinson grabbing Walt Hazzard's jersey - I THINK it was big O - and pulling him down on top of him and getting a bogus charge call when the score was tied and Walt was just stalling to set up the final shot leading to Thacker, who was 0-7, making a fall away from the far corner in the final seconds leading to a NC for Cincy and preventing Ucla's first-ever NC;
The win in 75 for Coach's final game and last NC;
Tyus' run of course but every bit as much the absolutely brilliant game Ed O'Bannon and the whole team played to win the NC over a fine Arkansas team in 95;
The rematch with Houston in the Final Four with a healthy Kareem in which we destroyed Houston;
Those come to mind off the bat
I'm too young for Wooden moments, so my favorite was the Gonzaga comeback 2 years ago.
"UCLA has climbed the mountain!"
I still can't believe Luc caught that pass from Farmar. And the steal! So great!
Cameron Dollar taking over for an injured Tyus Edney in the 1995 final with the team down 5-0 and looking shaky, then playing 36 minutes, with 6 pts, 8 assists, 4 steals and 3 rebounds. A true champion.
My most memorable moment wasn't actually on the court. It was when I learned that John Wooden had announced his retirement.
It was like a stab in the heart!
My most memorable tournament moment actually occurred off the court. It was when John Wooden announced his retirement. It was like a shot in the gut.
doesnt seem like theres that many good moments recently cuz ucla always wants to win the NC but always falls shorts cept in 95...
so how bout a memorable moment for the wrong reasons?
ucla getting backdoored to death by that princeton coach that looks like yoda, bouncing ucla early from the dance.
or baron davis dunking and landing with one leg hurting his kneee, and, regardless of what people say, never ever fully recovered.
or jim harrick...after losing and a reporter asked him a question during a televised press conference, he responded by saying something like, "i dont think you're qualified to ask that question." LOL
my fave moment so far this year is jack nicholson throwing his fist cheering for ucla (ya i guess im shallow). LOL
Sidney Wicks asking John Wooden to let him play behind Gilmore instead of fronting him.........the rest is history....I have been following them from the middle 60's so many great moments during the tournament and regular season games.
Oscar Robertson didn't play against UCLA in the Final Four. UCLA's first Final Four was in 1962. The Cincinnati player who drew the offensive foul was Tom Sizer.
UCLA then went on to lost the consolation game to Wake Forest, whose star was Billy Packer! Oh the humanity!
(1) Rich Washington's jumper from the baseline to take down Louisville--who had led most of the game in both regulation and overtime
(2) Tyus Edney's coast-to-coast
(3) Walton's 21 for 22 vs Memphis State
(4) Alcindor's dominating 38 pts 22 Reb game vs Purdue--his last game at UCLA
(5) Bruins win 98-83 over favored Duke to complete their first ever championship run, going undefeated to boot.
(6) Goodrich hits for 42 points as the Bruins are just too quick for Michigan.
(7) Sidney Wicks block party on Artis Gillmore.
(8) 1971, when the Bruins came back from the dead to take Long Beach State in a Regional Final barnburner.
(9) 1975--The Bruins win their final title of the Wooden era--sending Coach out as a winner.
(10) Cameron Dollar subs for Edney and brings home banner #11
There's also the matter of those eleven championship games that ended with the good guys cutting down nets.
Definitely the 1968 NCAA semi-final destruction of No. 1 Houston and Elvin Hayes, 101-69. Revenge for the earlier 71-69 loss to the Cougars in the "game of the century" at the Astrodome. Bruins led by 44 at one point. I'm convinced it was the greatest one game performance by a team in NCAA history. Houston coach Guy Lewis said, "Nobody could have beaten them today, and I mean nobody!" I still remember the final dagger when Kenny Heitz hit the bucket to put them over 100.
One of my favs of a more recent vintage is the
Earl Watson led UCLA dunkfest over Maryland in the 2nd round of the 2000 tourney.
No rings, no FF, but as dominating a performance by a UCLA player and team over one of the better ACC teams in a tourney setting.
The dunk that I remember or think I remember is Jerome catching an alley oop with his back to the basket and reverse dunking it and the sinister expression on his face.
For Fan4Life and other Bruins fans to remember the dismantling of Maryland...

The comeback against Gonzaga is what really turned me from a fan into a fanatic.
The comeback against Gonzaga is what really turned me from a fan into a fanatic.
I was too young to remember, but how about the big redhead going 21 for 22 in the championship game against Memphis State?
Bruins fouling the wrong guy in 75 who hadn't missed a free throw all year, freezing him with at least one timeout and watching on split screen as Coach almost willed the ball out on the front end of a 1 and 1. The ball seemed to go almost all the way in and out. Then the pass to Richard Washington who drained it from the corner to win the game.
How about 1997 vs. Iowa State when Dollar pulled off the win in OT. Check it out below.....

Tobey Bailey's 360 degree reverse slam dunk, in the 1995 NC Final against Arkansas, to ice the cake.
