PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

What bench?

I expect one of the topics of today's press conference with UCLA coach Ben Howland to be the lack of production, and minutes, from the bench since the Bruins face the prospects of playing three games in three days in the Pac-10 tournament.
In the last three games, Lorenzo Mata-Real is averaging 8.4 minutes, hasn't scored and has three rebounds. Alfred Aboya is averaging 11 minutes, scored a total of four points and has one rebound. And James Keefe, who did not play against Stanford and logged two minutes against Arizona nine days ago, has two points and one rebound in UCLA's last three games.
"We may have to play (the starters) less minutes,'' Howland said, "but we're just trying to win every game one at a time."
