Where's Keefe's spotlight?

| | Comments (0) |

Ben Howland sort of scolded the media Saturday for not writing about James Keefe's performance against USC, even though Daily News staffer Brian Dohn wrote a story about him. Howland said he'd be mad if people didn't write about Keefe's productivity - minus the missed free throws late against Stanford - for a second consecutive game.
``James Keefe, who no one wrote about yesterday that I saw. ... James Keefe was huge for us these last two days and if no one prints that, I'd be upset,'' Howland said. ``He deserves a little recognition. Here's a kid who never knows when he's going to be called upon, hasn't played that many minutes, he played the last six minutes when we were up 30 against Cal the other night. Yet, he comes through when called upon.''

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
