PROFILE

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

Wooden could leave hospital tomorrow

Here is the release from UCLA:
The condition of UCLA legendary former basketball coach John Wooden is much improved on Monday, according to his daughter, Nan Muehlhausen.
“Dad had a good day today,” she said at 5:45 pm PDT. “His heart rate is stable and everything is good. He’s having a nice turkey dinner right now.
“If everything stays stable, we are optimistic that he will leave the hospital tomorrow..”
Coach Wooden, 97, was hospitalized on February 29 with a hairline fracture of his left wrist and a fractured left collarbone he sustained in a fall in his condo the previous night. His wrist is in a cast and his arm will have to be in a sling when he leaves the hospital. The name of the hospital is being withheld at the request of the Wooden family.
