Olson, Cowan story

Here is the story I wrote for online. Quarterback Patrick Cowan’s 2008 season is in jeopardy.

UCLA quarterback Patrick Cowans season is in jeopardy after an MRI today revealed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Surgery is a possibility, but he will be re-examined when the swelling decreases.
If surgery is needed to repair the ACL, Cowan would miss the 2008 season.
Meanwhile x-rays showed, Cowans backup, Ben Olson, fractured the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot and will be out six to eight weeks. Whether surgery is needed to place in a screw in Olsons foot will be determined later on.
Both quarterbacks are red-shirt seniors, and were injured during non-contact drills in Thursdays practice. Neither will play in Saturdays spring game at the Rose Bowl.
Cowan had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in February, and sat out Tuesdays practice because of soreness in his knee. The team was off Wednesday, and Cowan aggravated the injury during Thursdays practice.
Olson, who has been ravaged by injuries the last two seasons, broke the bone in his foot when he planted to throw a pass in Thursdays practice.
