Austin won't compete in track
Terrence Austin had hoped to compete in track once spring football was done, but it won't happen now. There's plenty of depth with the jumpers, so his services weren't need this season. Last year, he jumped as the Bruins needed someone to score. This year, that's not necessary. The only chance he would've had to compete was this weekend's dual meet against USC. After that, there are a limited number of entries for the Pac-10 Tournament, so he wouldn't have been able to compete in that meet anyway.

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
I would have liked to have seem him run the 100m. UCLA does not have any great sprinters. He might be able to score some points at one of the meets, and work on his speed.
