Cowan, Olson updates

Just got word from UCLA that QB Patrick Cowan will have an MRI on his left knee Friday, and QB Ben Olson will have an x-ray on his right foot Friday. Neither are expected to play in Saturday's scrimmage at the Rose Bowl.

Wow, isn't this a little early for the wheels to already be coming off the bus?

Does Coach Rick have any eligibility left? He's probably the best one out there. Maybe Cowan and Olson should move on to a lower-impact sport, like shuffleboard...talk about brittle.

Can anyone who was there shed any light on how the injuries happened? I wonder if offensive line play similar to last year's had anything to do with it.

Cowan & Olsen have had plenty of time and chances to show that they are not D1 quarterbacks. All the injuries, inconsistant play.........I'd rather see the Bruins go in a different direction at the QB position. It surely wouldnt hurt. Those two guys justhavent gotten it done. Give the other 3 a chance to grown into the position. I'm tired of two years at QB and zero improvement. Try another kid, please.

This is unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. I honestly thought that the two guys were going to be reinvigorated and will not have to deal with this until mid into the season.

Looking at CN and Ben Olson, one would be hard pressed to guess which one is older!

Heard on AM570 that both injuries were non-contact. They both pulled up lame.

Ben was worried that that he wasn't being given a chance when Pat was named spring starter. And the coaches wanted Osaar to change positions.

Just another day in Westwood. Incredible.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's fifth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
