Culture change
Memphis coach John Calipari talked about the difference he saw in UCLA when the Tigers beat the Bruins early in the 2005-06 season, and when UCLA won in the 2006 regional final, and the difference Kevin Love brings to the team.
“There was a cultural change, a basic change in the mentality of the team, which means they bought in,’’ Calipari said. “Now, the thing that they’ve been missing is the Bill Walton, the center, Kareem (Abdul-Jabbar), and they’ve got one now – Kevin Love.
“And so all the mentality is still there, and Kevin Love gives them the Bill Walton, the Kareem, that they really want to have. (Darren) Collison is as good as it gets, an NBA player. And then you have (Russell) Westbrook and (Josh) Shipp and all these other kids that come in and do what they’re supposed to do to help their team win.’’
Go ahead and admit it Brian, you cut out the piece where Calipari mentions that UCLA is great because they get all the respect that the world is denying Memphis :)

O.K., so now the moment of truth. The oddsmakers placed ucla at 4.5 to 1 against to win the title. They are an underdog to Memphis and will be an underdog to probable North Carolina in the title game if they get by Memphis. That translates to about 4.5 to 1. So nothing has changed for ucla, despite winning the first 4 games of the tournament. Prepare for the worst bruin fans because the odds say it is going to happen.
