Hoops update

UCLA coach Ben Howland held his season-ending press conference today, and as one could imagine, the topic of the Los Angeles Times story saying center Kevin Love and point guard Darren Collison met separately with Howland told the coach they were leaving for the NBA was a major topic.
The Daily News reported last night the players (or their families) denied this took place, and so did Howland during his press conference.
"It was not accurate that (Love) told me on Monday that he was leaving to go to the NBA,'' Howland said. "He left today an hour ago to go home ...and he's going to sit with his parents over the weekend and at that time try to formulate some decision as to what he wants to do.
"It was an erroneous report that he said that, along with Darren Collison. I never met with Darren on Monday. I never spoke to Darren on Monday. I did not see him. I did not email him. I did not text him, so that was not accurate."

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
