Practice tidbits
UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said Patrick Cowan, Ben Olson and Kevin Craft separated from the rest of the field in the quarterbacking derby, and Saturday's scrimmage will be 60 to 80 plays.
LB Shawn Oatis re-injured his neck last week in practice and decided to take a medical scholarship and retire from football.
Walk-on TB Ryen Carew tore his ACL and will miss the season.

Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
