The Darkhorse
Junior college transfer Kevin Craft has been impressive in the first three days of spring practice, but is still probably something of a darkhorse in the competition to be UCLA's starting quarterback this fall. I had a chance to talk with him about his approach to the situation the other day and he had a very thoughtful answer.
``I don't really think about what the other guys are doing,'' he said. ``All I'm trying to do is beat the defense every day. I've been in competitions since I was in high school. You just get used to it.
``The only thing you can ever really ask for is a shot. That's what it's all about.''

This is

all u can ask for is a shot? kinda dumb answer, IMO...but this is what passes for "thoughtful" in today's error...
For example, I would have followed up with, "what if you're given a "shot," completely outplay everyone else, and then see the job given to someone else?"
Would Craft kumbaya the situation and rationalize, "oh well, I was given a shot"?
What it is all about, in truth, is hoping this HC is smart enough to play from day one the guy that can best execute on a FB field while facing live fire.
