Transfer updates

As I reported earlier in the week, UCLA's staff contacted the high school coach of Duke transfer Taylor King, who was given his release from the Blue Devils program last week.
There is also speculation former Harvard-Westlake star Alex Stepheson is ready to leave North Carolina and return home, possibly to UCLA.
Earlier this week Stepheson's high school coach, Greg Hilliard, wrote in an email, "That rumor has been around for over a year and as far as I know, it's no more true (today than it was last year."
Now, in talking to sources at UCLA, part of UCLA's problem when looking at transfers is the uncertainty of the current players. To my understanding, UCLA wants that stuff hashed out before knowing how aggressively to move on prospective transfers.

Not sure what the real attraction of either player is here, as both are non-starters with modest statistical numbers across the board. Seems to me that the last thing the team needs is more 3s or 4s.

Depth is depth. Ask one of $C's 15 running backs. UCLA was down to a 6 or 7 man rotation at one point with all the injuries this year. And who is to say one/both of these won't blossom with another year under theirs belts and/or change of scenery? Worth looking into for sure...

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
