The No. 7 UCLA women’s track and field team finished second at the NCAA West Regional Championship in Northridge as Nicole Leach and the 4x400m relay team garnered event crowns on Saturday. Arizona State won the meet with 114 points, while UCLA was second with 87.5 points. After two days of regional competition, the Bruin women advanced 10 women to the NCAA Championships, held in two weeks at Drake University in Des Moines, IA.

Leach won her third consecutive West Region crowd with an easy win in the 400m hurdles as she ran away with the title in a time of 55.47.

The 4x400m relay team of senior Meris Wisdom, junior Krystin Lacy, sophomore Krishna Curry and Leach won by nearly two seconds with a season-best run of 3:32.82. That time moves them into the top-10 in the NCAA this season.

Curry also had a huge day in the 800m as she ran another lifetime-best in the two-lap race to finish third overall. Her new PR of 2:04.70 moves her to No. 4 all-time in school history and into the top-10 in the nation this season.

In the 100m hurdles, freshman Lindsay Rowe ran a lifetime-best 13.53 to finish third overall as she also received an automatic bid to the National meet. Senior Jolanda Diego was a double event qualifier to Nationals as she placed second in the 200m (23.40) and third in the 100m (11.50).

In the field events, senior Keneisha Creary was an automatic qualifier to Nationals with her fifth-place clearance of 5-9.25. Senior Allison Miller finished tied for ninth and is eligible for an at-large spot.

In the javelin, sophomore Tara Ross was sixth overall with a throw of 154-5 and is also eligible for an at-large spot. She currently ranks 19th in the nation and should be competing in Iowa in two weeks.
