UCLA senior baseball standout Alden Carrithers is on the Wallace Award watch list, an award given the country's top collegiate baseball player. Here is the release:

UCLA senior infielder Alden Carrithers has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award's revised watch list, featuring 100 top college baseball players, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on Sunday. The Wallace Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate baseball player in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual induction festivities on July 3, 2008.

Carrithers, who did not appear on the preseason watch list, leads the UCLA baseball team in numerous offensive categories. In addition to boasting a team-best .391 batting average in all 44 games, Carrithers has logged team highs in hits (68), runs (36), at-bats (174), RBI (39), total bases (99), slugging percentage (.569), on-base percentage (.471) and stolen bases (17).

The senior from Portland, Ore., has started 33 games at second base and 11 contests in left field. Carrithers also leads the Bruins with 19 multiple-hit performances and 13 multiple-RBI games. Carrithers has notched five four-hit efforts this season after having totaled two four-hit games in 2007.

The Wallace Award is a dedication to the memory of former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace, a slick-fielding shortstop at Texas Tech from 1977 to 1980. The selection committee will narrow the "Wallace Watch" throughout the remainder of the season, and the three Wallace Award finalists will be announced following NCAA Super Regional play.
