Stepheson said Friday in a statement that his family is facing
unspecified health concerns.
Stepheson is a Los Angeles native who was the backup to Deon Thompson
at power forward. In two
years he averaged 3.16 points and 3.36 rebounds.
Coach Roy Williams said he is disappointed but understands
Stepheson's decision because "by
being closer to home, he will be able to provide the necessary

School officials said they have granted Stepheson's request for a
release, a move that permits
him to contact other programs.

Are you sure he was released from a Letter of Intent? Those only apply to high school seniors.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
