More Austin

One reason Terrence Austin might not keep high jumping this season is because of injuries.
``I'm still feeling a little bit of a hamstring issue,'' Austin said Saturday.
He placed second in the USC-UCLA meet, which was interesting considering the Bruins have a solid core of high jumpers. Before Austin went to the track for practice on Tuesday, there wasn't much consideration given to him scoring points, which is why UCLA coach Art Venegas said the team probably wouldn't need him. However, Austin said he felt good on Tuesday, which is why he competed.
If he continues to jump, he wants to meet qualifying standards for the NCAA West Regionals.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
