A few track notes

Here are some notes on former, current and future UCLA tracksters, courtesy of the sports information department.

Rhonda Watkins will not jump at the Trinidad and Tobago National
Championships this weekend due to her hamstring injury she sustained at nationals.
She is exempt from the meet due to her win last summer and is still
eligible for the Olympics because she has the ``A'' qualifying standard in the
long jump.

High jumper Keneisha Creary will compete at the Jamaican National
Championships next weekend in the hopes of qualifying for the Olympic
team.

At the USATF Junior National Championships (Columbus, OH)... three men
- Spencer and Dylan Knight (steeplechase) and Taylor Hobson (high
jump) will compete, along with incoming freshmen Camilla Dencer (800m)
and Ryann Krais. Krais is one of the top multi-event
female athletes in the nation and will also run the 400m hurdles at the
Olympic trials. The top four athletes in each event at the junior
meet are eligible for the World Junior Championships which are in
Poland in July.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
