More on Sheller accident
Sheller stuck out his left leg in an effort to keep the vehicle from tipping over, but the vehicle tipped over anyway. That's how Sheller injured his left knee and sustained an open wound near the inside of his left ankle. The vehicle was used as a mode of transportation, according to Steve Sheller, who spoke to a UCLA official, while the family was on vacation in Lake Havasu. None of the other passengers in the vehicle were injured.

What a freakin' bonehead.
Since it was seemingly the fault of the ATV and not the rider and since Sean was pencelled in as a starter I think it would only be fair that a petition be filed with the NCAA that Sheller, due to the nature of his disability,.. will get to use the ATV in any game in which he starts. Talk about running lanes!
Bonehead!? What is the guy supposed to do live in a bubble until fall practice. Riding an ATV is not, per se, a reckless activity.
Hope he is well enough to start on September 1.
Hey buddy, riding an ATV is dangerous enough less than 7 weeks until Fall camp. The dude is getting a FREE education to play FOOTBALL. That means that his job is to go to class and play football for 4 years. Once school is over, he can ride all the ATVs he wants.
Come on, people! This isn't high school anymore. These kids are responsible for making the school tons of money. And you can't use they argument that, "They don't get paid or anything." They get thousands and thousands of dollars worth of free education. That should be enough incentive to not be putting your health at risk before a football season.
Video Bruin,
These kids aren't "responsible for making the school tons of money". They are responsible for themselves.
Furthermore, his job is not to "play football for 4 years", his job as to live his life as best as he can. UCLA does not have to give him a scholarship next year and he is not obligated to play for UCLA next year.
By the way, you might consider working on your motivational skills.
...in your ATV down by the river.
Ughhh.. Last time I checked, they were all on scholarship to play FOOTBALL. They receive FREE education in exchange for their SERVICES on the football field. Now whether Sheller has long-term dreams of in the NFL is irrelevant, and seemingly non-existent. What matters is the fact that we are dumping scholarship money in to a player who enjoying his free ride in a school that far more intelligent kids can't even afford to attend, much less compete to get into because of our wasted space on morons like Sheller. He needs to take his JOB of playing football seriously. High school is over. This is serious.
Sheller = wasted scholarship money
Video Bruin,
They may be on scholarship to play footall, but they are not "responsible for making the school tons of money". To me, they are fellow Bruins; to you, apparently they are mere money-making device that are to be managed.
And as for their "services" on the football field. Many of the 85 scholarships players will not play a meaningful down this year, are you proposing that we revoke their scholarships simply because they did not play on the field?
No, what I'm "proposing" is that the 85 players we do have scholarship should take better care of themselves during the offseason so that they may compete at the best of their ability if they do get the opportunity to play a meaningful down. Our team that last few years has shown to be lazy, injury prone, and unable to finish games because of their lack of physical conditioning. Now while that may be because of the poor coaching and training, the players are too responsible for maintaining their athletic shape and should be smart enough to avoid dangerous activities during the offseason.
Video Bruin,
I agree with you to the effect that all college kids should excercise good judgement towards their own wellbeing.
Video Bruin...simmer down. What's with all the anger?
sheller = fred flintstone....yabba dabba do, errrrrrr, d'oh!
So Video Bruin, if a law student is on an academic law scholarship and they are reading the business section of the newspaper instead of studying law, they would be similarly disrespecting their scholarship?
Similarly, if a student athlete on scholarship were actually studying, they should be blasted for not working out?
Get real.
does anyone else find it suspect that he was just turning on a curve when randomly the thing started to tip over...give me a break, they don't tip that easy and he clearly doesn't take playing D-1 football as seriously as he should be
