No contracts

| | Comments (47) |

Collegiate players don't sign contracts that would restrict them from doing activities like riding motorcycles, skiing, off-roading, etc. This should be noted in the wake of Sean Sheller's ATV accident. A UCLA official didn't believe Rick Neuheisel had any rules prohibiting such activities. It's doubtful Neuheisel would. When Neuheisel was at Colorado he took players on rafting trips.

Okay Jill, I see that this post is directed at me. Please show me where I said that players "signed contracts" restricting them to ride ATVs.

Listen people, I KNOW THAT THE PLAYERS HAVE THE FREEDOM AND THE RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT IN THE OFFSEASON. ALL I'M SAYING IS THAT IT WASN'T SMART TO RIDE ATVs BEFORE FALL CAMP WHEN OUR OFFENSIVE LINE IS ALREADY THIN AS IT IS.

Holy crap, UCLA fans are so liberal and "understanding," it makes me sick.

Rivertownbruin said:

Do you expect these kids to live in a bubble? Do the names Big Ben Roethlisberger or Kevin Winslow Jr ring a bell? These were PROFESSIONAL athletes who ruined seasons by ridding motorcycles. Sean was on a family vacation driving his sister and her friends on a paved road with a street legal vehicle (hardly a dangerous activity). Heck...maybe UCLA should build a tunnel from the dorms to spaulding and then to every class room on campus. We wouldnt want our players to sprain an ankle walking to class.

VIDEO BRUIN said:

Again with the liberal, "who cares" attitude. Hey pal, I pay thousands of dollars a year for my Rose Bowl season seats, with a donation on top of that. I'm sick of hearing about our bonehead players doing stupid things to jeopardize our season yet again.

And ATVs don't just flip over randomly on a paved road at a normal speed. The dude was probably being and idiot and tried to tailwhip the sucker or something. Get real, guys.

TheBEAST said:

Video Bruin, the world doesn't revolve around you. get over it already and just move on and worry about more important things in life.

Video Bruin,

"Liberals" like me believe in "irresponsible things" such as balancing one's national budget and not starting fake wars.

Silly us.

VIDEO BRUIN said:

Not to devert from sports, but liberals like you are responsible for poisening the moral fabric of our nation and strengthening the lackadaisical work ethic of the welfare dependent in the name of "compassion." Meanwhile, I'm pissing away precious tax-dollars to illegals and "disabled" trash while they proceed to pump out babies and drain our system.

Now back to UCLA. I love how people are telling me to get a life and focus on more important things..... Yet they are posting on the very blog I am in the middle of the work day. Why don't the rest of you heed your own advise.

Anon said:

And yet you're still posting...during work. How productive of you. I'm actually glad this gets you riled up. It's unfortunate for our team, but seeing a little gnat like video with his entitlement complex whine and cry brings me pleasure.

I feast on your tears video, keep them coming.

Video Bruin,

Ah, yes, we liberals are responsible for "poisoning the moral fabric of our nation", maybe we should get a lesson on morality from family-value Conservatives such as Larry Craig or David Vitter, right?

As for those "disabled" trash that you are "pissing away precious tax dollars on", I live next to the Long Beach VA hospital in Long Beach, some of these "disabled" got there because they fight your war of choice. Some of these "disabled" have to drag themselves, limbless, on their stomachs and on a jerry-rigged gourney, across the street from the bus stop, just so they can get to the hospital. And frequently some of these "disabled" vets would stand on nearby street corners just so they can get a few dollars for food.

Please feel free to go tell our vets, who put their life and limbs on the line, how they are scums of the earth for wasting your "precious tax dollars".

VIDEO BRUIN said:

On the contrary, Anon, VB is known as the perpetual antagonist. I am like the fly that you hope will just fly away, but instead, you just keep swatting your hands hoping to squash me. Instead, I eventually make you go crazy.

No tears here. Just wishing that our stupid players can put up a decent showing next season. Those meltdowns last year were just horrible.

Heck, maybe Ben Olson can make it through an entire game without getting some pansy injury. Someone give him some Midol.

Anon said:

And seriously, how stupid do you have to be to start off with "not to divert from sports" and then do it anyway. If that were truly your intention, then you'd just shut your pie hole and spare us all the verbal diarrhea of your personal opinions that have nothing to do with sports. You're one of those morons that say "No offense, but...".

Hey video, no offense, but you're a little gnat.
Lulz.

Anon said:

No, VB is known as my little lulzcow, whom I milk for sweet sweet tears. Get worked up more.

Ben Olson is AWESOME. The ATV accident is in no way Sheller's fault. He should be commended for trying to save his family members. Discuss.

VIDEO BRUIN said:

I never mentioned war vets, by the way. But since you brought them up, maybe you can meet them at the bus stop and tell them how you and your socialist buddies want to cut funding in Iraq in order to "force" them to come home.

I was talking about the lazy white trash and illegals who sit in their apartment all day and collect food stamps for their 9 kids and won't get a job because they are "disabled." Meanwhile, I am working 8+ hours per day to put my own food on my own and table to support my family. AND NOT ONLY THAT, Mr. Obama wants to in fact RAISE my taxes because I "make too much money," thus lowering the taxes of the very lowlifes I mentioned above. It is sickening.

Anon said:

Obama is great. Tax cuts for the wealthy is a crock, and it's about time that they contribute back to society after their years of exploiting the poor. Iraq is a quagmire that will bankrupt this country. Maybe the rich should pay for it exclusively since the poor are already the one's on the ground fighting the war. Discuss.

VIDEO BRUIN said:

Ben Olson is awesome? You should be on the Last Comic Standing.

Sheller is a good guy. I'm just railing on him because I like to get people all riled up. Go check me out on CBSsportsline.com (s/n Video__Bruin). That is all I do is piss people off because it works.

GO BRUINS! BEAT THE VOLS!

Good job Jill. Since there is an apparent question on the blog (even though it is kind of thin ) of whether Sean was doing something he should not have been doing pending Fall practice you cleared the air. He was not. He was on vacation. He had riders with him and was, I am sure, trying to avoid getting them hurt by keeping the ATV from turning over. Not stupid. Commendable. Good Luck Sean ! Hope to see you against Tennessee.

VIDEO BRUIN said:

LOL. Now you are spewing out garbage. The wealthy haven't "contributed back to society?" Yeah, how dare large corporations employ people?! That is a crock! They don't deserve tax cuts! They are only responsible for the economic success of our great nation!

I love how poor, financially struggling people like Anon always attack the rich and demand that they give up more of their hard earned money.

Liberals = LOL

Video Bruin,

Right, because the GIs would rather stay 100 years in Iraq than to come home to their families.

Tell you what, I'll fund your expedition to Tikrit. Let me know when you're ready to go, Rambo.

As for your rightwing talking points, Obama's tax plan will cut taxes for middle class Americans, or in your country club elitist parlance, "lowlifes"

Let's reward the people who got rich by exploiting the poor in this country, then sending the decent jobs overseas and obliterating the middle class too. That's a fantastic idea. /sarc

We should put a 90% tax rate on the rich actually, now that I think about it. /not_sarc

Here's my final post about politics: In response to your comments about the GIs, my brother is a United States Marine and would PREFER to serve his country on the front line. Most of our troops would prefer to be working at what they were trained to do as opposed to sitting at Camp Pendleton, wasting away 8 years of service scrubbing the floor. Stop trying to "bring them home" because you think that is what they want. They would all prefer to be overseas. That is why they joined in the first place.

And guess what news channel the troops watch when they are overseas... Fox News...

As for Ben Olson, I hope he can produce this year. The last few years have been ridiculous with his lack of production.

Actually, there are some evidence that the Laffer curve actually kicks at 90%- the marginal tax rate on the top brackets in Scandanavian countries leads to widely accepted tax dodging behavior- as in "company cars" that happened to be a Porsche.

This is not to say that raising the marginal tax rate from 35 to 38 is the same thing, or that face with the 3 trillion dollar national debt courtesey of George W Bush, that it is not the best solution, but as with all things, moderation is the key.

ANON, we live in a competitive, capitalistic society. You don't like it? Move to Canada (the land of pre-socialism). I bet you a million dollars that you work for a large corporation of some sort with CEOs that are WEALTHY. Right, they "prefer to be overseas", which is why there is a need for the military had to institute stop-loss to prevent people from leaving Iraq.

As to your claim that GIs vote Republican, is that why Obama is running neck and neck against John McCain among families of armed forces?

What's awesome is that Obama is going to win in November, and he will sweep a whole bunch of Dems into congress and the liberal paradise is on, and there's nothing that VB or his ilk can do to stop it. Oh, the crying from VB is going to be fantastic. I can hardly wait.

I guess your last comment on politics was actually your second to last comment on politics eh? Taking cues from McFlipFlop is the way to go. Here's guessing that VB will be the one moving to Canada...if he can figure out how to get there.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
