Apparently, LRMAM got assurances from those "in the know" that he would be picked somewhere late in the second round, and that was good enough for him (altho he would not get any guaranteed $$$). So good luck to the man who would have the longest name in NBA history, provided he makes a roster...

Hey does anyone know what this does for the status of Alex Stephson (the kid from UNC), does this make Ucla more attractive? I know he is going to petition the NCAA so he can play right away instead of having to sit a year.

I read in an article about Ryan Anderson of Cal entering the NBA draft that he's heard that Cal may be strongly in the running for Alex Stephenson. Is this true? Are there any updates on his status?

Don "Mac", of 1990s ucla basketball fame (and still the Pac-10 scoring leader, I believe) threw some light on this subject yesterday on Petro's PMS (politically correct?) show.

Ol' Don thinks the kid made the right decision. Howland runs a difficult program, and besides, the kids get tired of playing at the college level after 3 or 4 years and want to move on.

Shockingly all the UCLA fans out there missed that segment.

I think "getting tired of playing at the college level" is a pretty lame excuse. At least DC isn't tired of us yet. I think Luc thinks injuries might hurt him after another year in college, and wants to make money while he can.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
