Answers, Part VII

Here is the seventh set of answers:

Why is there so much variance in the listed heights of basketball recruits/players? Even the same scouting services/sites seem to change the height by as much as 2 or 3 inches when describing players from day to day.Because one of the givens about high school and college athletics is the heights and weights of football and basketball players are exaggerated. The general rule of thumb in hoops is to subtract an inch from a player’s height.

Have you had opportunities to talk w/ current recruits? If so, do you get a feel for what kind of impression this coaching staff is leaving them with? Are they impressed, or do you sense hesitation b/c of Walker/Chow’s future is uncertain (leaving for greener pastures)? There is only talk about Walker’s future at UCLA, and it is not strong. Most kids chose the school based on the school and the head coach, not so much the coordinator, especially since most coordinators move from school to school regularly.

I read over on the Song Girl Blog that they have cancelled Trojan Rewind. Is this the same for Bruin Rewind? Yes, it is.

is the traffic on the u$c blog so slow that Scott Wolf has to resort to putting pictures of our cheerleaders in order to get hits?I don’t know. Perhaps that is a question for him to answer, and since he does has a forum to do so, maybe you can ask him.

Shannon Tevanga started as a true freshman at UCLA at offensive guard. With the problems in the offensive line, do you see any realistic possibility that freshmen Jeff Baca or Connor Bradford get playing time this year in the offensive line? From the folks I talk to, that does not seem like a possibility.

Diane Stephenson (Alex’s mom) told The Press-Enterprise that they haven’t made decision on enrolling to USC. Can you confirm it? I can confirm that is what she told the paper, but I cannot confirm whether or not it is true. I talked to her early Thursday morning and she told me the same thing, but that does not mean the story Scott Wolf wrote is wrong.

Now that Honnycutt, Snaer and Stover have received offers from UCLA, is Howland done making offers for the 2009 class at least until these three recruits decide on a school? Have any of the three indicated that they are leaning toward UCLA? I think there could be another offer or two made. Of the three, I would rank them in terms of UCLA getting a commitment in the order of Honeycutt, Stover and Snaer. I know each one likes UCLA a lot, but whether that is enough to get it done is another matter.

Which of the incoming freshmen football players are most likely to get immediate playing time and not be redshirted?Safety Rahim Moore, cornerbacks Aaron Hester and Anthony Dye, receivers Antwon Moutra and Nelson Rosario, running backs Aundre Dean and Derrick Coleman, defensive ends Damien Holmes and Datone Jones.

You mentioned earlier this week that Tim Tebow stopped by UCLA and went through a workout session. Why would he go about a workout at UCLA? why not USC or somewhere else? Did any coaching or player personel have any comments on his workout? He was closer to UCLA and knew they had a field that was open. I didn’t ask him why. As far as coaches, they are not allowed to watch offseason workouts, so they were not there. The only UCLA player there was Ben Olson, and he was doing his own thing.

How does UCLA stand right now with DE Kennan Graham? Does the coaching staff see him as a realistic possibilty? I don’t like the chances of it, and the coaching staff cannot comment on recruits. Therefore, I cannot tell you what the coaches think of him being a possibility, or it would be a violation.
