Answers, Part VIII

Here is the eight installment:

Have you asked Coach Neuheisel what type of reception he anticipates upon his return to Husky Stadium this November? Will he be able to take the team on a boat ride across Lake Washington?I don’t know about a boat ride. The NCAA will probably consider that a violation. He said he anticipates a lot of boos, which, as he said, isn’t the worst response he could get.

I have read a lot of negative commentary about the basketball development of UCLA recruits Reeves Nelson, Brandan Lane, and Kendall Williams. Ben Howland has proved to be one of the better talent evaluaters within the nation so are you getting any indication from UCLA or your inside sources that they are unhappy with the basketball skill development of these young recruits?I am not getting that at all. From what I hear, UCLA is happy with the development of these players.

Does the exit of Aaron Meyer free up the schoarship for Prince with or without the arrival of Donovan Edwards? The exit of Dylan Rush freed up the scholarship for Prince. The exit of Meyer freed one up for Edwards.

Do you feel that Rick Neuheisel needs to establish himself within the eyes of local recruits. We do have a star coaching staff, but, at least in the eyes of recruits, Rick Neu is the least star of them as they are aware of Chow and Walker’s success here in LA. I think that is the challenge ahead of him, but he is tied a bit by the fact he cannot call recruits until Sept. 1. They can call him, but he cannot call them. But he will have his chance to make an impact throughout the season, and build the bond and trust needed to be successful in recruiting.

Do the football players take classes both sessions of summer or just the first? They take classes the first summer session because that allows them to remain at the school and have it paid for as part of their scholarships. Since the second session is during training camp, it is impossible for the players to take classes because of double sessions and the time commitment to get ready for the season. And their football commitment allows them to be on campus as part of their scholarship.

Why doesn’t UCLA practice with an o-line and d-line in the voltunary workouts. I saw pictures of other schools passing workouts and i noticed that there were O-linemen and D-linemen actively participatingThe offensive and defensive lines practice at times during the workouts, but the meat of the drills are 7-on-7s without those two units.

Do o-linemen and d-linemen show up to the 7 on 7’s or is it skill positions only. Everyone is there, which is different than previous seasons when the linemen used to go lift weights and leave. Now, everybody is out watching or taking part.

You mentioned that you suspect player personel activity this summer as the new coaching staff really settles in. With Aaron Meyer already annoucning his decision, do you anticapte more movement in player personel?Well, Dylan Rush also left the team as did receiver Jamil Turner.

Charles Siddoway, the big OL from Oregon, any chance UCLA lands his services? There’s a chance, but it is always hard to get a player like that away from Oregon.
