Holiday road

I was able to catch some of the pickup basketball games at the men’s gym today, and incoming freshman guard Jrue Holiday looked superb. He has great court vision, plays hard on defense (even in these pickup games) and looks very comfortable.
Word from talking to several of the regulars in attendance is Holiday is making a name for himself on the court, and also off it for the way he handles himself.

Wow, he even plays great defense in pick-up games. What a man he must be.

But, heck, I recall 40ish men at the playground playing hard “D.”

    Go figure.

  • BruinNV

Let’s just hope he doesn’t hurt himself in one of those meaningless pickup games.

I’m really looking forward to seeing our backcourt in action next season.

At least you’re not taking things out of context…

Oh wait, you are. You conveniently disregarded everything else in the post. Something like: great court vision, being comfortable (not overwhelmed against the tough competition in the Men’s Gym), and the approving praise of other credible sources…

    Honest mistake I guess…

  • BruinFBBB

Meaningless? Really? I guess nothing gets done in the off-season…no reason to practice or anything; he should probably be ATV riding or something…

Brian was just giving a report on a player that many UCLA fans want to know about.

I don’t understand the sarcasm or the need to belittle the play of Holiday UNLESS you have something against him or UCLA. Most likely both.

Given the pompous/above it nature of a lot of your posts here, this type of attack should be beyond you. But then again, you are a Trojan for life. Aren’t you?

There is probably a song girl thread you could comment on only a click away.

ONLY the truth is not a real UCLA fan. My guess is that he is a $UC fan in disguise. I choose to ignore his comments, and everyone else would be wise to do the same.

Jrue will be the next great basketball player to take UCLA to a Final Four.

Summer pick-up games at Men’s Gym aren’t your typical pick-up games. You’ve got real players there and pros who live in LA during the off season and work on their game. That’s one of the perks of being a UCLA basketball player…getting to play with pros regularly during the summer.

hey Brian, I’m just wondering how you find out Holiday played in the gym today, or when other recognizable sports stars decide to stop by campus. Do you hear this stuff through your media connections, because I really want to know when sports stars are on campus so maybe I can go check out their games. Thanks!

First let me say I am an SC fan. However, Jrue Holiday is an amazing player and an outstanding person. He will represent UCLA quite well and he will be a player you will remember for years. If you though Kevin Love had a great work ethic, Jrue will make KL look lazy. He will easily replace Westbrook in the lineup.

What else is new. Typical BH recruit. I have seen Jrue play several times. I think he will be BH’s best recruit ever. He looks effortless in everything he does. He doesn’t run, he glides. A very beautiful and graceful player who can also be powerful, when need be. I don’t want to say Kobe and HAAAAAARK Jordan. But DANG, does this kid remind me of both of those players.

I was just in Vegas this weekend and at the airport I ran into several HS players there for some tourney this weekend and the players they kept ravving about, when I told them I was a Bruin Alum, were Jrue and Malcolm Lee. Jrue will almost definitely be one and done, but Malcolm has Russell type upside, yet he is more polished than Russ was at this point. I can’t wait to see what happens, yet I don’t quite understand ONLYTHETRUTH’s post. He’s either a hater or an anti Dohnster. In any event, I’m convinced he’s NEVER seen Jrue play. GO BRUINS!!!!

I’m surprised its taken you Mr. Dohn so long to notice Jrue Holiday as an unbelievable player. I think I recall you saying that you were unsure if he’d adjust to Howland style defense (I’m pretty sure Howland recruited him and was so happy to land him because of his tenacity on that end). I don’t know him personally and have only seen some things on tv and the internet, but it seems to me that he’ll come in more ready to play and lead than any of our recent star guards (westbrook, collison, farmar, afflalo). He can also unlike some of those guys be awesome at both positions PG and SG. He’s coming in more like a K Love or B Diddy, a team leader from day one, Gatorade POY. I’m thrilled that he’ll be leading this great freshman group. He seems to be a positive kid who will get the best out of his team mates. I’ve only seen him on espn (high school games, all star games) and youtube, but we’ve got another great leader to go along with Darren Collison.

Dohn has been singing Holiday’s praises for a while now. I don’t understand why you’d say it’s taken him so long to notice that he’s an unbelievable player. Are you new to the blog?

ONLYTHETRUTH is just bitter because Lil’ Romeo doesn’t even see court time at the pickup games at the Spectrum gym in El Segundo…

    Pick me!!

  • BruinGirl

There was a guy with vanity plates that read “ONLYTTH” with a USC frame driving on the PCH the other day and I suspect that ONLY THE TRUTH is that guy, clearly an ‘SC fanatic.

  • HomeBru

onlythetruth is definitely a trojan. i think he actually said he was on this blog once or twice before.

  • Alan W

Obviously ONLYTHETRUTH does not know what type of players show up at the men’s gym to play. Lot’s of pro’s and top D1 college players!!

What does he think, that J’rue is playing pick-up games against Little Romeo!!
