Talkin’ walk-ons

A few of more notable players walking on to the football team this fall is Ian Davis, the brother of former UCLA standout defensive end Bruce Davis. Ian Davis is a defensive end out of Clear Creek High in Texas, and it is my understanding he has not played football in a few years.
Also walking on is Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks defensive back Jeff Dickman, and as been previoulsy reported, offensive lineman Brett Downey from Brett Harte High of Angel’s Camp.

(Editor’s note: We had some blog issues today, so I had to re-post everything from the day. Unfortunately, the comments were lost. Sorry about that.)

I hear UCLA is hurting for lineman. I know the Center Nick Garibay from Banning High in Wilmington is an invited Walk on at UCLA. I heard from one of the coaches that he is 6’2″ 290 lbs. He is an all city lineman and an all area daily breeze selection. Last I heard he was going to report to camp sept. 2nd. I was wondering if they need help on the line why not create depth at an interior Position?

i actually grew up with jeff dickmann (at least from K – 8) and our high schools competed every year in football, so i can tell you firsthand this guy is FAST. granted thats against his competition, i don’t know how it translates to a national scale.

either way, we can’t really go wrong with touted recruit dayne crist’s #1 high school target, can we?

Gosh, no disrepect, but come on, is all this news good for ucla football? My instincts say it will be 5-years before ucla can compete with USC. And maybe not even then if Pete is still there.

Bruce’s “little” brother Ian is an intriguing athlete. He was an all county basketball player and ran on the track team (400m). If he is actually 6’6″, why not try him out at TE.

How many years is “a few years”? For an 18 or 19-year-old, that’s an eternity…when was the last time he played in an organized football league? Pop Warner? Did he not play because of injury? 290 lbs. is a lot to weight to carry on a 6-foot-2 inch frame if you have been physically inactive…

A 6’2″ 290lb frame is very common for centers.
