Ex-Bruin Amy Acuff qualified for her fourth Olympic Games by clearing 6-foot-4 in the high jump. She finished second to qualify for Beijing. Meb Keflezighi lost his bid for a third Olympics by finishing 13th in the 10,000 meters. Here's the release from UCLA:

Bruin alum Amy Acuff qualified for her fourth Olympic Games on Friday
evening as the high jumper finished second at the Olympic Trials in
Eugene, OR with a clearance of 6-4. Acuff becomes the fourth former
student-athlete to qualify for Beijing, joining Monique Henderson
(4x400m relay pool), Suzy Powell Ross (discus) and Sheena (Johnson)
Tosta (400m hurdles).

Several Bruin alums were in action along with Acuff with Jon Rankin
putting on a fine performance in the 1500m. Rankin ran the
fifth-fastest time of the day (3:40.81) and will run for his first
Olympic spot on Sunday, the final day of the Trials.

Meb Keflezighi lost his bid for a third Olympic Games as he placed
13th in the 10,000m in a time of 28:39.02.

In the opening round of the women's 200m, alum Hasani Roseby finished
19th overall (23.45) and will continue her competition on Saturday
with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.

Some of your readers may be interested in the biographical sites I made about Meb Keflezighi and Jon Rankin. To my knowledge, they are the most comprehensive sites on the web for information about both great athletes:

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
