Here is the third set:

so the truly burning question of the day...who has the better song girls? Rutgers or UCLA!Rutgers has cheerleaders and a dance team. We don't have song girls.

Tell me if I am wrong but for any football team you need athletes and considering Nate Chandler fits that mold ...Will his T.E abilities translate well to O.L and become one of the few great surprises and how would you describe his body type?Chandler is long, has a big frame and very good athleticism. I'm not sure his body outgrew the tight end position, but he has the type of body that can hold a lot of weight while remaining athletic and light on his feet. As far as a great surprise, perhaps in the future, but offensive linemen rarely make impacts in their first seasons of college at the position.

All the recent articles about UCLA football have focused on the Offense and Defense. What about the special teams? Is it just a given that they're set in that department? No team-oriented practice is done on specials teams in the offseason, and with placekicker and punter set, the returners are the only things up in the air. That said, it will be some time into camp before UCLA settles on its returners.

there is talk about players to watch out for and the strengths of the team. Why doesn't anyone ever mention any of the special teams? I recall last year the special teams won quite a few games for the team. Because special teams are often taken for granted until they fall apart.

I haven't heard much on Aundre Dean wrt 7 on 7s, is that b/c these drills are geared more towards corners, receivers, and qbs? That is one of the reasons, and another is Dean isn't getting tons of reps right now. The only freshmen getting lots of reps in the 7-on-7s are where there is very little depth, and receiver and defensive back fits those molds.

What goes on in the 7 on 7s? Also, you mentioned Jonathan Franklin showed good speed. Does he look like he has the size to contribute early at running back (I heard he's put on significant mass)? The 7-on-7s are passing drills without an offensive or defensive line on the field. Sometimes it includes dump offs to running backs, but it's mostly so the quarterbacks and receivers can begin to master the offense, or stay sharp with things they know. In regards to Franklin, I think his best chance to contribute this season will be as a returner on special teams.

can you help us solve the mystery? Recruiting sites listed Chandler at 6'6" as you did in your article. The UCLA website lists him at 6'3". Did you pull his height from a site or do you have some other numbers you are referring to? Does he look like he has the size to play RT if he gains some weight?Well, I'm 6-3, and I was looking up at him. He's 6-5, 6-6. I asked him his height, and he said 6-6. And, yes, he looks like he can play right tackle. In fact, I was told about a possible move in early June, but waited to write about it until after he was told, so this isn't something that was a knee-jerk reaction.

With Chandler moving to RT, does this mean Harkey will not be redshirting this year? And does that also indicate the coaches' confidence in him (Harkey)? I'm not sure about the red-shirting part yet. I know several of the returning players are big Harkey fans, but I don't know if he will red-shirt. The coaches have not seen him yet, so they don't really have an opinion on whether or not he can play this season.

does it look like Carter has lost a step from his surgery? It depends on the day. Some days he looks great, and other days it seems like he is apprehensive to run. I think he is still getting comfortable with his knee, and it could take a few more weeks of his running to get him past the mental barrier.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
