Fifth time charm

Every time I'm out watching 7-on-7s, fifth-year senior receiver Marcus Everett is standing out. In talking with some of the other players, each one brings up how well Everett is doing. And, he looks good and decisive running routes, his body is more sculpted and his confidence is high.
Certainly, among the returning receivers, Everett is standing out the most.

Brian, a few years ago you were high on Marcus Everett, and I believe you thought he had the potential to be an NFL receiver if he continued to progress. Then Marcus had a down junior season, and followed that by being injured last year.

Do you still think he has a chance to get drafted. Also, is he also serving as a mentor to the freshmen wideouts?

I recall how some thought I had great hands in intramurals when in college, and I was encouraged to go out for the team as a walk-on. But putting on the pads, and taking on-heard-of hits made me realize my future was not in pro football.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
