On Lockett

| | Comments (2) |

Although UCLA strong safety Bret Lockett is suspended for the season opener against Tennessee, he is not sitting by idly and waiting for practice to begin Aug. 5.
Although he is not participating in 7-on-7 drills, he is spending time with the younger safeties after nearly every play during the passing sessions.
Also, by allowing him to practice during training camp, he will be ready and in shape for the Sept. 13 game at BYU.

Funny, when I say your sentence that started with "he is not sitting by idly," I expected you to finish it with "he's hitting the books early and is getting at least 3 chapters ahead for every class in the fall."

Maybe his academic suspension didn't have an impact?

It could be that he is doing fine in the grand scheme of academia and just blew off a series of mandatory tutoring sessions.

I doubt Neuheisel (or any coach) would suspend somebody just because they are doing poorly in school as long as they were doing what the team's acadmemic advisors ask of them -- unless of course he was academically ineligible.
