Opponent watch

| | Comments (2) |

Pacific-10 media day is Thursday, and I'll have news from there. In the meantime, UCLA's second opponent is picked to win its conference. BYU, which defeated the Bruins in the Las Vegas Bowl last season, was picked to win the Mountain West title.

Brian-

I think the defeat of UCLA by BYU was deserving of a few qualifiers such as:

'on a last second blocked field goal' or 'over an injury depleted Bruins team starting a walk-on QB' or 'even though the Bruins held BYU to their lowest offensive yeardage output of the year' or 'desptie Chris Markey becoming the only oppenent RB to run for over 100 yards against BYU last year' or even mention BYU's 2-7 all time record against UCLA or the fact that UCLA beat them by 10 earlier that same season.

I usually take it with a grain of salt when posters refer to you as 'anti' UCLA, but it is posts like these that fuel that fire.

Why didn't you post, 'BYU which lost to the Bruins in the regular season last year' was picke to win the Mountain West title? That would have been entirely accurate. Why highlight the negative with no qualifiers?

I agree with El Cajon... I was there when we beat them in the regular season. Yes they had the momentum at the end of the game but we won. During the bowl game, which I watched on TV, we had the momentum at the end of the game but lost with a blocked field goal. There was nothing said in the post about our win in the regular season and nothing said about the players who lost in the bowl game. Our D was amazing, Bruce was on fire...

I hope out D plays as good as they did in the bowl game. If they do, I see no reason why our O or special teams cant lead us to victory, even playing in their home...

Thanks Brian for a nice positive post...

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
