Recruiting change

It's a subtle change, but one difference in UCLA's recruiting strategy under coach Rick Neuheisel is to have a few coaches on campus throughout the month of July.
Under former coach Karl Dorrell, there were times no coaches were on campus during the month, which is a laid back time of the recruiting year, so if a prospect stopped by there was a chance no coach would be there to greet them.
Now, that is not the case since several coaches will be on campus each day in case someone drops by for an unofficial visit.

Unfortunately, there are more recruits LEAVING ucla than coming to them.

2 recruits do not make up the whole class. UCLA still have a very good recruit class and it will get better when they start winning.

If UCLA's academic standard is too tough and is not the right place for you then go somewhere else. They only accept the best.

That is the difference between the coaches. Nueheisel is a winner.

All that really matters is who signs in the spring. When the Bruins beat SuC at the Rose Bowl this fall, the recruits will all be begging to be a Bruin. On a positive note, Terry Bowden gives the Bruins some love in this article.

I am quite surprised football recruiting in the spring did not get to a stronger start, with the three top notch coaches UCLA now has....It gets harder in the fall if things do not fall in favor of Bruins, given a thin offensive line and highly injury prone QB ranks...I hope Rick and crew get it going soon.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
