Sheller update
Sean Sheller had surgery today to repair torn ligaments in his left knee today. He injured the knee while riding in an ATV.
Here's a release from UCLA:
UCLA redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Sean Sheller had surgery on his
injured left knee on Tuesday at the UCLA Medical Center.
Sheller's medial collateral ligament was repaired and his anterior cruciate
ligament was reconstructed. In addition, he had some meniscal (cartilage)
tears that were fixed during the surgery.
Sheller spent Tuesday night in the hospital and will spend the remainder of
the week at his parent's home. He will probably begin the rehabilitation
process on Monday.
Sheller was injured in a vehicle accident on June 20.

This is

Unbelievable. The school probably paid for the surgery too. A scholarship athlete getting complimentary surgery for an injury resulting from an ATV accident.
Sheller... pfffff.. Enjoy your FREE education this season while you are forced to watch the games you should be playing in.
such a hater, please keep your venom out of here
Poor guy. Summertime and he has a serious operation and now faces a long rehab process. And all because he was just being a teenager having some fun and taking some chances. But that is what teens do. It's their job.
I can't believe you have sympathy for this doofus. Dude is getting a free education from UC-freaking-LA to play football and he gets to sit back and relax a whole season to rehab from a stupid, nonsensical ATV injury. Must be nice. While the rest of us have to pay thousands of dollars for a B.A., Sheller gets a free ride for being a complete idiot.
totally understand - have two daughters of my own
VD is right. Free surgery on UCLA! Talk about really taking advantage of your scholarship. More kids will start getting hurt in the offseason so they can get free medical treatment and concentrate on their studies! Have to give VD credit here for coming up with a new angle. Well done young lady.
The truth is he will be 21 on Saturday and his job is to get an education and play football. I belive 21 year olds should be wiser and I believe prized athletes like this are told constantly not to participate in activities that may jeopardize their careers. I say due to the circumstances under which he was injured, take the scholarship away and give it to someone who can help the team. May he heal well and have a prosperous life, just not on UCLA's dime.

You will notice, clone12, that FAN4LIFE is in fact on my side on this issue.
Great post, Holmes. You are the only sensible person on here. You know that it is a shame that scholarship money is being wasted on this ATV riding moron. He should be kicked off the team and we should give the free education to someone who appreciates it.
LADIES and Gents:
Stop the bickering. The young man crashed an ATV used while at a vacation spot with his family. The ATV was used as a means of getting around rural terrain. It is called BAD LUCK...
OK Haskies, please explain to me how an ATV just randomly turns over when driving at normal speed as a means of transportation. ATVs don't just spontaneously lose control unless the driver is driving extremely fast. He was probably not being safe while driving it. If he was just using it as a means of getting from one place to the next on "rural terrain," he should have only been going a safe speed. Where the heck was he on vacation? The Planet Tatooine? You're telling me there were no paved roads ANYWHERE?

Hey VB, let me call his Dad and i'll get back to you.
VB..your right bruddah..it works every freakin time!!!..let the july 4th fireworks begin
Sheller's accident has a parallel with the June 14, 2006 story of the Pittsburgh Steelers' QB Ben Rothlesberger getting injured in a motorcycle accident.
The news reports about Sheller's injury said that he had extended his left leg while making a right turn in order to keep the ATV from turning over; it turned over on him anyway. Obviously there was a misjudgment on Sheller's part and probably too much speed. The reports did not say whether he was on a 3-wheel or 4-wheel ATV. The three-wheelers have been banned from any new sales in the U.S. because in order to make a right turn, for example, you have to lean to the left in order to give the outside wheel traction. This is counter-intuitive and requires some experience in knowing at what speed you can successfully make this maneuver.

You seem to be explaining how it happened and aren't necessiarily defending his actions but I'm still going to say he shouldn't have been riding it in the first place. Rothlesberger, either. Radmonivic, either. They ought to have a clause in scholarship offers and pro contracts dealing with stuff like this.
