Post practice update

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel was — surprise, surprise — enthusiastic about Friday’s practice, saying he liked the way the Bruins performed and the players looked fresh.
It also came as little surprise when Neuheisel said it would be safe for me to pencil in Micah Kia as the starting left tackle. Kia went through a full practice with his left hand in a cast, but with each of his fingers sticking out, which gave him plenty more mobility.
And despite a poor day kicking off, special teams coach Frank Gansz Jr. said he expected Jimmy Rotstein to handle kickoffs.
On an injury note, quarterback Nick Crissman is going to have a second MRI on his injured right shoulder after the first one came back cloudy. However, the fear is Crissman tore his labrum in the front, and he acknowledged surgery may be needed.
