Answers (cont.), Part XII
Happy Saturday morning everyone. There were such an incredible number of questions I had to carry over the answers to today, and I will have three sets of answers leading up to tonight's crucial scrimmage at Drake Stadium.
So, as a continuation to what we started Friday, here is the 12th set of answers:
What kind of drills do the players do in terms of conditioning? Sprints? laps? How much time in practice is spent conditioning?
They do different types of sprints, stretching, weight lifting, and then there is the conditioning they get from practicing at a fast tempo. Conditioning lasts 10 to 15 minutes after practice, and there is also stretching and running before and after practice.
How many people would you project will be in attendance on September 1st?
I will go with 81,766.
Since school isn't in session during the first game, would the CTO sell the student tickets to the public if there was a demand?
I believe they have done that in the past.
Do you get the sense that UCLA is recruiting the OC/IE areas harder than the inner city? Save the 2008 class, UCLA hasnt really had a presence in the inner city for many years.
UCLA continues to recruit the inner city hard, but the coaching staff likes more players in Orange County and the Inland Empire right now.
how are walk-on's Max Williams and Justin Mann looking ? Are there any walk-on's that have been standing out in your opinion ?
I haven't paid much attention to them. I know defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker likes cornerback Andrew Abbott, and Austin Hill has been getting a few reps on the second team offensive line, although that is more because of depth issues.
In tribute to Mr. Hayes...
Who is the man
That would risk his neck for his brother man -- Craft?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about -- Craft?
Do you think this cat Craft is a bad moth--?
I'm talking about Kevin Craft, can you dig it?
Man, I wish I had the time to put together a little diddy about ...UCLA football players. But my better Mr. Hayes memories are from South Park.
Good job as always and appreciate your mailbag (makes Fridays at work go much easier). Do you envision having a "mailbag crush" like Mandel does over at SI or would the spouse not appreciate that?
I have no idea what you're talking about with a mailbag crush, but I know there was a crazy number of questions this week. It has been a four-hour job, at least.
How about a revised football depth chart? The depth chart on the UCLA web site still has Aaron Meyer, Sean Sheller and Pat Cowan listed.
I was thinking of doing one next week, after Saturday's scrimmage. At that point the scrimmage will have taken place and things will be more settled.
Who do YOU believe are the 5 most TALENTED OL?
Most talented and best suited to play are two different categories, but I will answer your question, which is based on talent. Nate Chandler, Darius Savage, Micah Kia, Micah Reed and Jeff Baca.
Among west coast schools with coaches on the hot seat only 2 (Washington and Arizona) currently pay more then Dewayne Walker currently makes at UCLA. Do you believe this will be an impediment toward Walker becoming a head coach after this season or do you think his stock is so high he will get inquiries outside his geographical base?
I don't think Walker would take any job. It has to be the right fit, and for the most part, that means a BCS school. Also, a school could fire a coach and decide to make a bigger financial commitment, and pay more to the next head coach. Remember, Karl Dorrell was guaranteed $800,000 and Neuheisel is making $1.25 million.
