Answers, Part VI
Here is the sixth set:
What's Neuheisel's view on frosh hazing? Is there going to be some type of initiation ritual like singing in front of the team?
I have no idea, but knowing Neuheisel, I would think there will be something.
Any chance that one of the frosh DE's Jones or Holmes overtakes Tom Blake? By midseason?
I think Jones has the best shot, but right now I believe the plan is for him to play as the backup to both defensive end spots.
What position do the Freshman safeties project to (Love, Moore, Woods, Westgate, possibly Franklin)? Are both Moore and Woods SS types?
The way defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker uses his safeties, many times they can be interchangeable. Right now, Love projects to a free safety, Moore can be either, I'm not sure about E.J. Woods, and I am leaning toward free safety with Westgate and Franklin.
How did the Tyler Honeycutt and Michael Snaer visits go?
As is always the case with visits, all the feedback I received was things went well. Snaer still wants to have a chance to start as a freshman, and that may not be possible, so I think it is a longer shot with him and UCLA. From folks I speak with, the feeling is Honeycutt will wind up at UCLA.
If there is success on the field as well as at the gate this year, do you see the athletic dept/Dan Guerrero stepping up and further increasing the financial commitment to the coaching staff?
Yes, I think that will happen. And it will need to happen because a good season means assistant coaches will get offers to go other places for more money.
Have you heard any favorable comments from recruits about increased tempo of the practices?
I have not spoken to recruits about it. After all, it's only been three practices, and I don't know if recruits could tell a difference anyway because their window for comparison may not exist.
Would you say there is a sense of urgency this year than in prior years?
No, I would not say that. In fact, I would go the other way and say there is much less pressure on this staff and the players. The majority of the talent is young, so it is not a last chance, and the coaching staff is under no pressure to win.
How serious can Coach Neuheisel get? How would you describe his demeanor of the practice field? Or what is his coaching style?
I don't know how to quantify his ability to become serious. I know he is active, intense and no afraid to let a player know when things are going poorly in practice. And he also is very positive when things are going well.
Who do you think will be the starting O-line for the first game against Tennessee?
LT Micah Kia, LG Darius Savage, C Micah Reed, RG Scott Glicksberg, RT Nick Ekbatani.
Do you think Johnathan Franklin will get a shot at Kick Returner?
I think he will get a shot, but I don't expect him to win the job.

Should we assume by some of these responses that Franklin is being played more at S than RB?
