Answers, Part X
Again, thanks for all the questions this week. I hope the answers were helpful. Remember, I will have the position breakdowns, beginning this weekend.
And to some of you, see you at Tuesday's first practice. Now, on to the last set of answers:
You reported recently that the football uniforms are going to stay the same. However, I just noticed that the UCLA Store is selling replica jerseys different from last year's jerseys. Two changes stand out. On the road white jerseys, the color of the jersey number has been changed from light blue to gold. And the jersey numbers are missing from the sleeves of the jersey. Do you know if the athletic dept will be making these changes to the actual jerseys that players wear?
All I can tell you is what the head coach said, and Rick Neuheisel told me there would be no changes to the uniforms. I have not seen the jerseys you are talking about, but are they retro jerseys?
Is the problem with Jeff Miller, David Carter, and Reggie Stokes that they are "tweeners"-- to slow to effectively play defensive end and not big enough to play defensive tackle?
I think the problem is they haven't displayed the talent needed to play either position to this point. Sometimes it's a strength issue, but usually guys that need more strength find a way to get on the field based on ability. I do know Stokes has the best chance to play this season.
In your opinion, how big of a factor does talent play in college football, versus execution?
To me, talent and execution go hand-in-hand. The crazy-talented teams can overcome a lack of execution on several plays, but at the end of the day all teams must execute to win. But, part of being talented is being able to execute.
have you noticed any significant differences in the size, strength or agility of any of the players as a result of summer workouts?
To be honest, nothing out of the ordinary. The second-year guys are bigger than they used to be, and Marcus Everett and Kahlil Bell look good, but nobody jumped out at me.
What are the odds of Shaq Evans and/or R. Carroll becoming Bruins? I think there is a better chance with Evans than Carroll. At this time, I don't see Carroll going to UCLA, but I will not be surprised if Evans winds up with the Bruins.

This is

Brian,
When you were on vacation I think alot of us relaized what a great job you do to keep us crazy fans in the loop. Even though you don't admit it it, I think you are starting to like the Bruins a little more each year.Otherwise you would not be so on top of it all year.
Anyway, from an appreciative, hard core Bruin fan,
Thanks for your hard work
