UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker said his defense was "solid" in the scrimmage. In fact, in talking with him, he used the term "solid" a number of times to describe how the defense played.
He also said that in the 35 plays run against the first-team defense, the offense had one seven yards after contact.

from people who know and have been around program for awhile, our defense could be a real surprise nationally and will keep us in some games where we would likely have been blown out in years past...price is a STUD

It could be that our D looks that good because our O could be that bad.

Agreed. However, you must remember that our offense isn't any worse than they were last year.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
