Kia breaks hand

Just got an update from UCLA -- starting left tackle Micah Kia has a broken left hand and is probable for the season opener against Tennessee.
On a positive note, Bruins coach Rick Neuheisel said offensive linemen Mike Harris (ankle) and Jess Ward (knee), neither of whom ever played a college snap on the offensive line, should be cleared to practice Monday.

Love how you said, "on a positive note," and then followed it up with "neither of which have taken a college snap."

Judging by the recovery time for the rest of our Dorrell recruited players, particularly the linemen, Kia will probably end up red-shirting. How do you get injured during field goal practice? LOL

Love it. I know it is reporter's short hand, but to say Kia broke his hand and is probable for Tennessee struck me as funny. But, of course, when one breaks his hand he surely will be ready to play football.

Micah Kia is a tough Hawaiian, this little injury will not keep him sidelined long. Many players play with broken hands, even the runningbacks. Go Bruins!

They will just have to wrap it up and tape it into a "clubbing arm". He will be fine. My prediction...Pain.

Clubber's right...they just wrap it in plaster and he has a clubbing arm. I'm glad it was a hand and not a knee or ankle (knock on wood!)

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
