UCLA left tackle Micah Kia said playing with his broken left hand heavily bandaged was "awkward," but added he was hopeful he could get fitted for a different cast over the weekend and play against Tennessee.
"It felt good, and there was nothing major,'' Kia said. "I'd like to get a new cast, but it's up to the doctor."

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
I don't think he should play..save him for conference play.
Being a lineman is simple, it's like wresting, beat the man in front of you. How hard can that be? People like to complicate things. You can teach many techniques. However, you can't teach HEART. Bottom line is this, if we put the man in front of us on his back, it will be GAME OVER. Dont't complicate the game, simplify it.

I have been saying ALL SUMMER how our linemen are just not very tough (Dohn erased half of my posts), but regardless, I have made my point known. All the "Bruin fans" on here say stuff like, "they are only kids, give them a break," and things like, "save him for conference play."
Listen, you hit the nail right on the head. THESE ARE FOOTBALL PLAYERS. They are supposed to be TOUGH and are on scholarship to PLAY FOOTBALL. Yet you have Sean Sheller who has no regard or appreciation for his free education, and instead decides to participate in dangerous activity the summer before a year in which our O'line is thin as it is.
Then you have Micah Kia, who WANTS to play in the first game, regardless of the state of his arm, but you have wimpy Bruin fans on here saying, "save him for conference play." We need more tough linemen like Micah Kia. I'm sick of hearing that our lineman lack "skill and technique." You are right, BruinFaithful, they lack HEART. They lack toughness. And most of all, they lack the desire to compete and win.
So listen up Reed, Glicksberg, Tevage, Kia, Ekbahtani, Savage and Chandler:
MAN UP! PLAY HARD! KILL THE VOLS!
Dohn, I don't understand why you deleted his post. Are you honestly that afraid that parents and players are going to get "offended" by our remarks? He never used any profanity, and never personally attacked anyone. What grounds did you have for deleting his post?

I deleted it not because of the harsh criticism, but rather for the language. While there was no profanity, per se, there were abbreviations of profanity. I've simply lost my patience with some of the language on here. As I've always tried to do, I do not tolerate even abbreviations of profanity. It's simple: Make a point without it!

Whatever. This is just typical Dohnism. He's trying to play GOD. Why not just delete the word in question? I didn't cuss at anybody. Why then cancel my account. WEAKNESS MAN. WEAKNESS.

OK. I apologize. I don't ever curse on here and will refrain from abreviated cursing also. Can you please replace my post and edit out the implied curse words? I would like to think that this is a forum where we can freely express our points of view without feeling like it is the Gustapo.

The problem is that Dohn isn't as passionate about UCLA sports as we are. Well, actually, he doesn't like UCLA sports at all. So when we get all fired up and act harsh toward our own program, he doesn't understand where that rooted anger comes from. He gets paid to watch UCLA sports. We PAY TO watch UCLA sports.

I think what VB meant is that you are not passionate about UCLA sports as we are becuase you have no vested interest. To you it is a job and you have said several times that you don't care whether UCLA wins or losses and that you are indifferent in that regard.
Hehe. Brian, it is very obvious. If you had the opportunity to cover USC instead, you would take it in a heartbeat.
Plus, you have made it pretty clear that you do not care whether UCLA wins or loses. And I'm perfectly fine with that. My whole point in my post was that you may have forgotten the frustration of having a poor program for many years. You don't feel the same frustration that UCLA has a swiss cheese O'Line or an inexperienced QB.
Sorry, I didn't mean to say you don't like UCLA sports. I meant you don't care about UCLA sports. You are a Rutgers man.
