Also, here is a quote from UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel on his decision to hire a special teams coach, rather than have a position coach also coach special teams.
"The normal routine is they split (special teams) between coaches, so one coach is coaching gunners, another coach is coaching this,'' Neuheisel said. "With Frank (Gansz Jr.) being the consistent voice, and the concentration of the meetings all being from one guy, I think you have a chance to latch on to some fundamentals and some techniques that will serve us well.''

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.

I was glad to see you post some stuff on baseball... The URL I filled out for this comment refers to a story that the #28 pick in the first round, Gerrit Cole, who will be coming to UCLA to play baseball (passing up on surely a multi-million dollar signing bonus). I'm a SF Giants fan, so it's bittersweet to see Crawford sign, but its great news about Cole. With how our pitching's doing in summer leagues, we should have a pretty solid team next year despite losing our MVP and a couple other starters.
