Post practice goodies

It was a shorter practice than usual as UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel begins to taper off to keep the Bruins fresh for Monday's game with Tennessee. Also, the seniors had to hurry off the field for a donor dinner.
On the field, Neuheisel said the tempo was ok, but guys had heavy legs.
Neuheisel said he expected Micah Kia to play at left tackle despite a broken hand, but wasn't yet sure if Kia would start.
On the injury front, UCLA was awaiting results of an MRI on freshman quarterback Nick Crissman, but Neuheisel said he believed Crissman suffered a labrum injury in his right shoulder. With Crissman out, Osaar Rasshan returned to practice and quarterbacked the scout team offense.
Backup middle linebacker Steve Sloan wore a red no-hit jersey because of shoulder stingers, and red-shirting center Kai Maiava learned he had torn meniscus and a torn medical collateral ligament in his left knee, but surgery should not be needed, he said.

Hey, Tennessee is only favored by 7 1/2 points, so those are not lottery odds. A victory is very possible.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
