Practice simulation
Want to know what it's like to be at practice, but can't make it? Well, part of UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel's approach is to play music during pre-practice stretching, and also during the latter part of practice.
Some of the tunes have been by Metallica and Willie Nelson, but he also is playing a fight song or two. Among those to blare over the speakers was this one:
I spoke to UCLA running back Kahlil Bell about it after Monday's practice.
"I didn't even know that was the fight song,'' Bell said. "I'm concentrating on picking up the blitzes. I'm not worried about what fight song is playing in the bleachers."

I know that it's Tennessee, and it's totally different from living out here in LA, but I can't help but be impressed by the level of enthusiasm that TU fans show for their football team. Could you imagine us drawing that number of fans for our band? Get real!
This pumps me up for college football season =)
I moved to North Carolina after graduation...middle of ACC/SEC country. As much as I love UCLA (and always will), it isn't 1/10 the atmosphere of Clemson or South Carolina on gameday.
"it isn't 1/10 the atmosphere of Clemson or South Carolina on gameday."
It's because UCLA is a women's softball school.
Anon... go back to Wolf's blog.
and a mens and women's soccer school, and a men's and women's golf school, and a men's and women's tennis school, and a men's and women's water polo school, and a men's an women's volleyball school, and a women's gymnastics school, and a men's basketball school (and so on)... UCLA excels in pretty much every sport, thanks for the reminder anonymous.
mindshed:
Perhaps you shed your mind when you said UCLA excels in pretty much every sport. That would be pretty much every sport except for football, which is the only sport that really matters
Then it's funny UCLA holds the longest winning streak in the only sport that matters against it's crosstown rival.
Btw, what was your favorite loss during the 8 game losing streak? My personal favorite was the double overtime game when you guys were leading by 2 TDs. Sorta like the Texas loss in 2005 except there wasn't a boneheaded fourth and two call by your head coach with the other Heisman on sidelines. Has there been another time a team lost with two Heisman trophy winners on the field?
So football is the only sport that really matters, huh? I guess the Olympics don't really matter, then, since football isn't an Olympic event. Typical narrowmindedness that you'd expect from the folks across town.
As a former SoCal resident and current TN resident, I can tell you that The Vols really pack in the fans and they travel.
UCLA is not a bad football program. They may need some time for RN to get his system in place, but he can put a winning team on the field.
I believe TN will get it done next week, but they can't look past this road game even with the likes of GA, FL, AL, and LSU looming ahead.
I love this game.
