Why are we so obsessed with college sports?

If I remember correctly last summer there was some buzz around Keefe bulking up and improving his game. Then he got hurt and we didn't see him until later in the year, where at times I think he stood out. How is he doing this summer? stronger? Faster? Better?

Thanks!

What happened with Kevin Prince? It sounded like he was looking great, but then he wasn't in the running for the starting spot when Olson went down, with Rashan jumping him.

I don't suppose you would be looking for an intern here in the next year or two would you?

Also, was wondering how you feel about players' names on the back of their jerseys? Some people don't really care, but I've read where coaches think it promotes unity and team first thinking if the uniforms have no names on the back.

UCLA seems to finish in the top 2 or 3 for basketball recruits a lot, but loses more than it gets. Holiday and Love were huge wins (and maybe Wright was a good get at the time over MSU and Stanford), but in the last few years there's been Brockman (UW), D. Thompson (UNC), Steveson (UNC), Budinger (AZ), Singler (Duke), Legion (Michigan then KY), Morgan (at first LSU), and this year it looks like the list will include Henson (UNC), H. Thompson (GU), the Wears (UNC), and maybe Bradley and Gaddy (if you believe the rumors that we're in the top 2 for them with TX and AZ). It's kind of an interesting pattern, any thoughts?

So, we learned last week that the offensive line went on the same snap count all year.

1) Who are the guys who run Bruinsnation.com? Why are they always so critical of you? Are they jealous of the amount of hits you get on the site?

2)What did you think of DumpDorrell.com when that was up and running?

3) Now that you have watched a week of practice, do you think our O-line will be better than originally suspected? I keep from everyone that they are showing improvement.

4) At this point, where would you rank the Harwell/Price tandem in terms of the best defensive lines in the nation? Top 10? Top5? #1?

5) I have to say, Dohn, I didn't like you at first. I used to frequent the UCLA homer sites like Bruinsnation and DumpDorrell. I have to say that I have stopped visiting those homer sites because they basically copy and paste good information that you and other writers post. There is no question anywhere in here. coronabruin said:

Have you heard from UCLA what they expect the attendance to be for the UCLA-Tennesee game on Labor Day? UCLA will probably end up with around 50K season tickets, plus around 15K Tennessee fans (I read they sold their allotment of 12K seats) plus I would guess around 5-7K additional tickets to be sold. That would make around 70K people. Any word from the AD on expected attendance. Thanks for you great work Brian!!!

Our 2008 football recruiting class was ranked in the top 10-15. Although deficient in certain areas (OL most obviously), credit goes to the Dorrell staff for assembling it and to the Neuheisel staff for keeping it together. Do you really see a big talent deficit at this position? None of these guys have even gotten a chance to show what they can do yet. Two games into his junior year Cade McNown couldn't throw a consistent spiral.

Brian, thanks as always for your good work. Now that practice has started, I'm visiting this site 4-5 times a day.

1. I was somewhat surprised to see Chris Forcier had closed the gap between himself and Kevin Craft in the battle for the starting job. I had presumed that Craft would not only possibly challenge Olson for the starting job, but that he would be handed the job if something happened to Olson. Is this a matter of Craft not progressing over the summer as well as hoped? Or did Forcier make huge strides over the summer? Or it is just a matter of Chow and Neuheisel wanting some competition at the spot to push Craft?

2. I've read quite a bit on Bell's progress but not much on Raymond Carter who was supposed to give the Bruins some speed around the edge before his injury last year. Any updates on Carter?

Among west coast schools with coaches on the hot seat only 2 (Washington and Arizona) currently pay more then Dewayne Walker currently makes at UCLA. Do you believe this will be an impediment toward Walker becoming a head coach after this season or do you think his stock is so high he will get inquiries outside his geographical base? Getting head coaching offers without a geographical tie is highly irregular and this would seem to significantly dampen any hope he has of becoming a head coach after this season unless he wanted a terrible gig such as New Mexico State ot Idaho.

Some other blogs i frequent (really talking about dodgerthoughts here) on gamedays have an open chat post for open commenting, so we can discuss game action as it goes on. would you consider this? granted, i can see how you might be wary of self-policing considering that this crowd has not always been the most mature, but perhaps a posted set of rules would help.

that seems good enough to make it another question, would you consider posting some commenting rules somewhere on the page? taking notes from the aforementioned blog (hey, it HAS led to successful commenting, i know there were over 2000 the day manny was traded) this could be very simple things like never use profanity, no discussing politics, no name calling, or whatever else you see fit.

Do you think the oline will be worse than our oline from last year? The reason I ask is because Bell was on pace for 1000 yards last year with the oline, and if there is not much dropoff, do you think he will rush for 1000 this season?

Also, can you describe the differences in coaching style and blocking philosophy between Palcic and Connelly (from last season)? If the change is significant, do you think our OL has picked up the majority of it so far in camp? Thanks again for your insight.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
