Season ticket update

I spoke to UCLA and was told the school sold 46,000 season tickets so far and are about 1,300 ahead of last year's school record of 49,000 season tickets sold.

You would think that with a new coach, and with USC at the Rose Bowl that we would be selling quite a few more tickets. Just 1300 above last year's pace seems a bit anemic.

Come on people! Talk this up!

As I recall, season ticket sales were way up last year because Notre Dame was on the schedule (also BYU on the home sched sells a lot of tickets). A better comparison to measure the Neuheisel bump would two seasons ago.

Two seasons ago (2006), a whole bunch of u$c fans purchased UCLA season tickets, went on the UCLA blogs claiming to be UCLA fans who got relocated out of the area for various reasons and tried to cell their tickets except of course the u$c game.

Its really hard to compare because you also have the economy playing a roll in whether or not people are going to buy season tickets or just sit at home and watch the games on TV...especially with how good High Def looks.

So adjusting for a bad economy and last year's mediocre record, picking up an additional 1,300 sales ain't too shabby...

UBTA owns 8 of those.

It ain't the economy, friends, it's the product. SC sold out every game, 90,000.

Build it (a winning team) and they will come.

The REAL question is how sales will do NEXT year. Let's say the following happens:
-UCLA goes 5-7 in 2008 (losing record)
-UCLA loses D Walker to become a head coach elsewhere
-Less than stellar recruiting class
-Buzz about Neuheisel and Chow will have worn off
-USC game is not at the Rose Bowl
-Only big non-conference game at home is Kansas State

Next year is the tough one boys...

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
