A reader emailed me this story on former UCLA safety Chris Horton, who is now with the Washington Redskins, so I thought I would share it with everyone.

I'm glad for Chris. He always seemed like a good guy when he was interviewed and always played very hard. Horton and Keyes were amazing.

GO BRUINS!

Keyes, although I wish him success at the next level, I still can't get that vision of him whiffing on the tackle at ND out of my head.

You're right VB, sorry. But the sick feeling I had walking out of Notre Dame Stadium that day is something I never want to experience again. That game was ours, but that's what happens when your coach does three straight plunges into the line instead of going for the kill.

I run a wedding videography business on the side, and fortunately I had a wedding scheduled for that day. So I didn't have to watch the tragic loss. The bad thing was that I was listening to it on the radio right before the ceremony started. And Notre Dame scored that game winning touchdown right when the bride arrived for photos. I spent the entire day working in sorrow.

as far as keyes goes the thing i look fondly upon was that oklahoma game way back. it might have even been his debut. in any case, he had a few crushing hits which if i'm not mistaken made it somewhere on youtube.

Yeah that hit on Rhett Bomar really set the tone for the game. And to be fair to Keyes, I think everyone in a Bruin uniform missed a tackle at the end of that ND game.

Prime recruiting material. What this story does is reinforce the idea to recruits that our coaching experience in the professional ranks can make it easier for UCLA players to catch on at the next level.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
