Answers, Part I

UCLA's two straight losses by a combined 90-10 score did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the Q&A segment. I will have 16 sets of answers today.
Now, onto the first set:

There have been rumors that Hollis Thompson could change his mind about attending Georgetown now that he's changed high schools and residences. Have you heard anything about that?
I have not heard anything relating to Thompson changing schools, but I'm not saying it isn't possible. However, I think you mean in relation to UCLA, and I have not heard anything in that vain. Nor do I expect to, but you never know in hoops recruiting.

I don't doubt you are correct but what specifically makes you discount UCLA's chances with Michael Snaer?
It has just been a weird recruiting process, and my sources say neither side seems to know exactly what the other side is thinking.

Did the coaches drop the ball by not recruiting Snaer harder early?
I don't think so. I always thought it was going to be hard to land Snaer based on some of the people helping him make decisions.

Why was the coaching staff so hard on Chace Stanback, and why did they recruit him if they didn't like him?
Well, first of all, I think the staff believed he was a better player than he turned out to be. He just wasn't the right fit, and I think the staff did not evaluate him correctly. As far as being so hard on him, I think the staff is like that with all the players, but Stanback doesn't have the personality to thrive in such an environment.

Regarding the story you linked to with the Turkish center: I don't mean to call you out, but a UCLA coach commenting on an unsigned recruit is a violation, is it not? And if the source for that quote is not reputable, then why link to the article?
Two things.
First, I am checking on whether it is a violation. Ffrom my understanding the reporter eavesdropped on the UCLA assistant talking to the kid's high school coach, so it wasn't an interview, but that does not mean it was not a violation. That said, it would be a secondary violation, and a slap on the wrist.
Second, where did I say the source for the quote is not reputable? I never wrote that, or said that. The purpose of linking the article was to let folks know UCLA was scouting the player.

Do you think Kevin Prince is likely to start for the rest of his career at UCLA, once he takes over either late this year or beginning of next, with Brehaut slated to take over in his redshirt junior year?
That is much too far in the future for me to predict. I've never seen Prince take a snap in a game, so how can I say he would be the quarterback for the next three-plus years?

do you have any insight into the staffs reaction to the Evans verbal to USC. Were they surprised and where do they go from here?
The staff cannot talk about it, but my sources say the staff was caught by surprise by it. I do think UCLA will still try to recruit Shaq Evans, but they now have ground to make up. UCLA is also recruiting other receivers, so all is not lost, but it does not look good for the Bruins when Evans, who many people I deal with felt would go to UCLA, commits to USC.

I thought Rick was supposed to know all of his players names? In the weekly news conference, he spoke of Jake "Reed" instead of Jake Dean. What's going on here?
It happens. There are more than 100 kids, so I'll give him a pass on this one. But it didn't sound good.

"Do you think Kevin Prince is likely to start for the rest of his career at UCLA".

This is exactly the type of question that makes Q&A tedious each week.

It would not be a bad thing for Brian to simply erase "bad" question without posting or responding.
