Here is the second set of answers:

Do you think Paulsen should redshirt this year after he broke his foot? Or do you think he can return in time to make an impact this year?
It's too early to tell. If UCLA has a chance to finish in the top three in the Pac-10 by the time he is ready to come back, which will be early November, at the earliest, than I think he should come back. Otherwise, he should take his time and red-shirt and go for a big 2009 season and increase his NFL stock.

Your prediction for the BYU game?
Too early. I'd like to watch the BYU-Washington game first. But I do think the Cougars will win.

How much better do you think our offensive line would be if we had Sheller and Lanis in the rotation? Substantially better? (I know you hate "what if" questions, but humor me a little bit).
With Lanis, it would be much better. That is, if he were healthy. He had NFL potential before all the injuries. As for Sheller, who knows? He's never played a down of college football.

Now that you have seen our offensive line play in a game, did any of them play better than you expected them to play? Who looked the best? The worst?
It was about what I expected. I thought Scott Glicksberg Micah Reed and Nick Ekbatani played hard, and did some nice things, Sonny Tevaga struggled and Micah Kia had some difficulties.

Should we expect to see mostly "first-half Craft" for the rest of the season or see more of "second-half Craft?" Dude looked like he had great potential.
I would think you would see something in the middle. He was brutal in the first half, although not all his fault, and Tennessee's passive defensive approach helped him in the second half.

Since no one, including yourself, expected us to win against the Vols, do you think we may have a slightly better season than originally projected? Or was our win merely a "fluke."
I'm not going to say it was a fluke, because that wouldn't be fair. That said, Tennessee was not nearly as good as I thought, and it was appalling how bad the Vols coaching staff was outcoached.

What position(s) will Tyler Lamb play at UCLA? He is a SG, but apparently being at least 6'5" now, he will have the size to play SF as well,
Almost anyone who plays the two and is 6-5 can play small forward as well. He could swing between the two positions. Plus, the kid may still grow some since he will only be a junior.

Where did Taylor Embree come from and why was he so lightly recruited? Why is listed under the class of 2007, but a true freshman?
He came from Kansas. He wasn't highly recruited because he is not a high speed guy, and his father (Jon, the former UCLA assistant) didn't push him hard in recruiting. As for where he came from, he was in school in January, took part in spring ball and impressed there. I wrote about him in the spring.

Have you heard any rumors about Abdul Gaddy committing to UCLA?
It is possible, but I believe he will take a visit to Arizona before he makes any decisions.

Have you heard anything about the progress of J'mison Morgan? Also, do you prefer Murphy Brown or Cybill Shepherd as your strong-willed feminine lead character of choice?
Not much on Morgan's progress because the coaches cannot coach him yet. It's all pickup basketball. And I never watched Murphy Brown, and I'm not a big Cybill fan. Can I go with Christine Campbell?

You seem a little reserved over UCLA's big victory. Is that because of your journalistic training or what? Man these are exciting times. The Bruins are back!! The big reason they won is because they believed in themselves. Having covered sports a while you should know that emotion and desire is a big part of success on the field.

Just an observation, but Tevaga got manhandled on the almost-safety play. It looked like Tevaga stood up and was pushed straight back almost five yards directly into our running back. He just got beat real bad on that play. That said, I applaud the effort that he and the rest of the Olineman displayed throughout the game to help with the victory over Fulmer and the Vols.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
