Answers, Part XVII
Here is the 17th installment:
What separates Coleman from Franklin, Knox, and Dean? He was the least touted of the four backs coming and and is the slowest out of the group (he and knox are probably close). At least Knox has better moves in the open field and can shake and bake defenders.
Touted means nothing. He is tough, runs down hill, has a good grasp of the offense and may be able to move the pile.
We keep hearing Datone Jones is going to play. It's clear he has more talent thank any of the DE's. And it would be a little to kind if i said the DE's have performed average at best. So why haven't we seen Datone?
Because the coaching staff hasn't been able to get him in there yet because of the way games have unfolded. They say he will play this week, so we shall we..
Why in the world is Westgate playing instead of guys like D. Carter, P. Larimore, A. Hester, EJ Woods, Datone Jones, and Damien Holmes. He's not even close to their talent level. Plus the depth at LB is just as good if not better than corner and DE? It doesn't make ANY sense.
Well, unless you are at practice and watching everything unfold, what is the basis of the argument? Carter came in out of shape and needs to drop weight before playing. Larimore is not strong enough play, and I don't know if he can play on the weak side. Hester never played zone, and needs to refine his technique because he was having a difficult time covering in practice. The plan with Woods is to get him acclimated to the academics at UCLA, and there is depth in the secondary. Jones should be playing. And Holmes isn't big enough or strong enough to play yet. Does that help?
With our serious depth issues on both sides of the ball, do you see CRN making a big push to solidify with JC standout's over next couple years until the recruiting engine is running on all cylinders?
Not really because there aren't enough JC standouts capable of playing at UCLA and also able to get into the school.
With Walker surely not happy with BYU tagging a "59" on us, you see him pushing our "D" a little harder this week? No secret we need our frosh/soph's to grow up very quickly...
No. I think he pushes them hard every week. I see him pulling back a little bit with the defensive plan so guys don't get overwhelmed and wide-eyed like last week.
I know that you wrote about Honeycutt in other articles but can you elaborate why Honeycutt was regarded so highly? What kind of skills do he have and how do you expect him to perform at UCLA?
I thought it was pretty clear-cut from the stories. He can shoot the three, he can pass, he can defend on the perimeter and he block shots. He also has a good feel for the game. And he better bring all those skills to UCLA, because that is why he was recruited.
Can you also shed similar light to Nelson and Lane as well?
Reeves Nelson is a big, banging body with skill around the basket. Lane is a rebounder who can shoot the mid-range jumper and can defend and rebound.
With the recent commitment of Avery Bradley to Texas, who do you think UCLA will sign for the upcoming class other than Honeycutt, Lane and Reeves?
Anthony Stover and a guard yet-to-be-named.
What does the coaching staff think of the out of conference scheduling of three ranked teams?
The staff, as a whole, is not thrilled with it, to be nice.
