UCLA officials told me today they are expecting about 60,000 at the Rose Bowl for Saturday's Pacific-10 opener against Arizona.

Pathetic.

At least I know my family will be 6 out of the 60,000. We'll make up 0.0001% of the crowd no less.

Pathetic? Are you kidding me? That is a very sizable turnout for a team that got spanked 59-0 the weekend before. At 60,000, that is still way beyond what USC averaged under Carroll's first year (which was below 50,000). In that regards, the UCLA fans are a lot more loyal and faithful than SC's.

True, but USC never gave away tickets for a X-Note. Plus, it is probably bando day, or cheerleader day, or Native American day or something, Otherwise we would be drawing 40,000

Its frustrating that we can only get 60,000 at the Rose Bowl, but there is one solution that can bring a fix to every problem this football program has (attendence, funding, recruiting, etc): WIN. Winning will bring more people in the seats, up the donations our very rich alumni gives, and bring about better Bruin athletes.

Now, our basketball fans have no excuse. We are winning and Ben Howland shows no signs of him reverting the program back to mediocrity, so there is no reason for our crowd not to fill up Pauley to standing room only capacity and all be wearing bruin blue.

USC never gave away its tickets because even if the school wanted to, nobody wanted them. Keep in mind that the school went through a dark period for about 10-15 years before Carroll showed up on the scene.

As for UCLA, the football program deteriorated each and every year under Dorrell but somehow managed to increase attendance year-over-year for every year that Dorrell was at UCLA.

Last season, UCLA finished 6-7 but averaged the most attendance in school history, with each game drawing approximately 75,000 fans. USC will never ever see that kind of attendance success with a recurring 6-7 win season.

Can you imagine how quick the Rose Bowl would fill up if the Bruins can put together 10-win seasons on a regular basis? Both schools are in a bandwagon town, but the attendance figure during one's dark period reveals the number of true fans. UCLA's 65,000 is clearly more than USC's 45,000. Unless 45,000 is somehow more than 65,000.

Guys, does the Rose Bowl allow bottled water and misters to be carried into the stadium by fans?

DoubleBruin Author Profile Page said:

No misters are allowed but unopened bottles of water are OK. I usually put a few 16oz bottles in the freezer the night before and take them with me.

There is no way 60,000 will be at the game. That will be total tickets given away.

School hasn't started at UCLA yet. Most students are arriving over the weekend.

Thanks DB! However many show up have to bring the NOISE!

Anyone interested in hanging out with VB and the UBTA at tomorrow's game? We have 2 extra 45 yard line seats. Face value is $49, but we will happily part with them for the best offer. Plus, you get to enjoy a nice afternoon with VB and the rest of the UBTA.

Seriously, if you are interested, email me at charlesva2004@yahoo.com.

You people do realize that there won't actually be 60,000 people at the game right?? Most likely there will be around 35,000-40,000 people actually in attendance. The 60,000 number is including EVERY ticket that has been sold and even then the attendance #'s are always estimated at a much higher level than tickets sold.

About Inside UCLA

This is Brian Dohn's sixth season covering UCLA after spending 4 1/2 years covering the Dodgers for the Daily News and other Los Angeles Newspaper Group papers. He graduated from Rutgers, where the first college football game was played in 1869. Sure, the Scarlet Knights suffered for a long time, but now RU is doing what Jerseyans always thought was possible. Winning at Rutgers also proves winning is possible everywhere else in the nation, so underachieving coaches better be careful. Now, if only men's hoops can turn it around.
